Status: Current
Topic: Community;Physical Activity
Funding Source: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
Funding Period: 2016-2019

This project is being conducted as a subset of the CHOOSE project, with a physical activity resource guide serving as an online community portal. Our goals for the guide are to: (1) feature free and/or low-cost resources for physical activity; (2) make this information available free of charge to residents of communities in the Lower Naugatuck Valley; (3) include brief descriptions and maps to show the location of each resource; and (4) provide links to more information, when available.

Further Study Details:

The guide will enable website users to search for resources based on category of activity (walk/run, hike, swim/splash, paddle, skateboard, ball sports, winter sports, playgrounds, and open fields).  The guide will also feature links to activity-related clubs and community parks and recreation programs. Target communities to benefit from the guide include Ansonia, Beacon Falls, Derby, Naugatuck, Oxford, Seymour, and Shelton.  Our partners who are providing oversight in planning and disseminating the guide include the Naugatuck Valley Health District (NVHD), the Naugatuck Valley Council of Governments (NVCOG), the Naugatuck River Greenway Committee, and the Naugatuck Valley YMCA. The NVCOG has expertise in geographic information systems (GIS) mapping, and is contributing in-kind staffing to help create and host this online portal.

Evaluation: We will track our outreach efforts to disseminate information about this guide.
